Clutch maintenance, repair and replacement
LPM offers efficient and professional clutch repair and maintenance for all sizes and makes of vehicles.
The clutch is one of the most frequently used components of your car so keeping it in optimal working condition is vital.
A clutch basically consists of two metal plates in the engine. Pushing down on the clutch pedal disengages these plates from the rotating wheels, which allows gears to be changed. Releasing the clutch pedal creates pressure that engages the operation of the hydraulic mechanism, which in turn transmits power to the wheels for it to start moving.
An important component in the clutch system called the “flywheel” is a common point of failure that often needs repair or replacement. Issues mostly occur when the flywheel cracks or burn due to overheating. Overheating is usually caused by slipping, grease contamination or dirty vehicle fluids. Resting your foot on the clutch pedal while driving also wears out your clutch.
The average lifespan of a clutch is anywhere between 100,000 to 150,000 kilometres and often falls outside of standard maintenance plans. Luckily, your clutch will give you early warning signs that something is wrong.
-
One of the first signs you may notice is that your clutch feels soft when you press down on it.
-
Trouble shifting gears or getting your car into gear, especially when putting the car in reverse and first gear
-
When the transmission slips out of gear for no reason.
-
A burning smell from the clutch slipping or overheating
-
If there are loose components in your clutch, it can cause a variety of noises
Don’t get left at the side of the road with a vehicle that won’t shift into gear. The longer clutch issues are ignored, the bigger the damage.
LPM will be able to make a proper diagnosis and recommended repair to keep you safely on the road.
